Diet update

Just a quick post to fill you in on what I’ve been doing lately.

As most of you know by now, I’ve given up on the Fast Diet for now. I gave it a good go for seven months, but it just wasn’t working for me. I wasn’t losing weight and fasting eventually began to feel like punishment. I couldn’t see the point of carrying on – after all, isn’t it the definition of stupidity to keep doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results? I’m sure it was Einstein or someone equally clever who said that.

So, I had a couple of weeks where I just ate what I wanted, including 4 days in London which included 2 days at the magnificent St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, during which we were plied with free gourmet food and drink practically 24 hours a day. Needless to say I put on a fair few pounds over those two weeks and last Monday, decided that something had to be done.

I didn’t want to go back to fasting again, so instead I went back to old faithful My Fitness Pal, asked it to calculate how many calories I needed if I wanted to lose 1.5lbs a week. The answer was a scarily low 1290, but I’ve managed to stick to that so far (and still have a glass or two of wine in the evenings!) so I’m pretty pleased with myself. I also resolved to go for at least one long walk a day, and convince my other half to come too. We’ve both been good about that too, walking on average just over 10,000 steps a day – around 5 miles.

The result of all this hard work? I’ve lost a pound a day. Yep, you heard right – ONE POUND A DAY! That’s way more than I ever lost doing the Fast Diet.

I don’t really know what this means. I’m loathe to say I’ve found the solution for me because bodies are funny things, and weight can fluctuate for no apparent reason sometimes. But I will be very, very happy if I can keep losing weight on this (surprisingly manageable) regime.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

I have been doing the Fasting Diet since May but I knew that if I really ate as much as I liked on the five non fasting days it wouldn’t work because i love food and am basically greedy! So right from the start I used MyFitnessPal as well, which said i needed 1200 calories per day. So twice a week i fast, the rest of the time i do try hard to stick to the 1200 but do not worry too much if we’re going out or have friends in. So far I have lost 16lbs and at just over 9 stone am pretty well near the ‘ideal’ for me.

Congrats on your loss Marion – that’s great. That was my problem I think – I didn’t count/restrict calories on non-fast days, not until I’d had a good few months with no results anyway, but I couldn’t really handle doing both. So, if I have to count/restrict calories, that’s fine – I can live with that. But if I have to count/restrict calories AND fast two days a week, well, that’s just not gonna work for me. I love my food and wine far too much for that! Anyway, this seems to be working for me so far so we’ll see. I suppose if I have a day or two where I eat and drink an awful lot (out with friends etc), then I could always do a fast day when I need to. I’ll play it by ear. Anyway, really pleased to hear you’ve got a system that’s working for you. Thanks for reading :-)

That’s brilliant – congrats! How long have you been doing it now then – quite a while isn’t it? Well done for sticking at it and I’m really pleased it’s working for you. I’m another pound down this morning so I’m very pleased too! :-)

Hey Vikki – long time no see! How are you? Are you still on the 5:2? Hope it’s still working for you. And how’s the writing going? (Your posts don’t show up for me anymore now I switched to WP Pro :-( )

Vikki Thompson

I’m fine thank you, but, ummmm, the diet isn’t lol. I’ve given up, had a couple of months off lol…I got soooo bored! Lol. Did WeightWatchers for a week and now I’m not even weighing myself, but I’ve definitely put on *sighs*

What you’re doing sounds great so I might just give it a go! :)

Oh dear! Oh well, not to worry. I think once you get to that bored stage there’s no point – you might as well give yourself a good break.

I haven’t actually done MFP for a while now, and have been eating exactly what I want, but my weight has pretty much stayed the same. Sometimes I’m up a couple of pounds, sometimes I’m down. I still weigh myself everyday and if I start piling it on I’ll do something about it but for now, frankly I’m too busy to bother!

Good luck to you – keep in touch! :-)
